In the Autumn of 2008 I was invited to participate in the ICECAP project. The mission is quite similar to that of the AGASEA project in which I took part back during the 2004-2005 austral summer: aero-geophysical survey of areas of particular interest in Antarctica, East Antarctica this time. Before even starting, the project has generated global interest:

CNN's article: http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/asiapcf/10/30/antarctica.expedition/index.html.

UT webpage article: http://www.utexas.edu/news/2008/10/27/antarctic_glaciers/

Statesman article: http://www.statesman.com/search/content/news/stories/local/11/13/1113europa.html

Saying that I embraced the invitation would be a gross understatement.

Instead of the Borek Twin Otter used in AGASEA this time we use a Borek BT-67 (basically a DC-3 on major steroids). The plane opens up interesting new possibilities with the chance of flying 8-hour missions instead of 4 - 4.5 hours.

Photos this time are taken with my new G9.

The winter wonderland of the pressure ridge.

The back is most likely the saddle between Erebus & Terror.
