I dumped about half a roll of film on this thing. I've seen thousands of icebergs and this one still remains the most incredible one. The hole would have been large enough to sail the ship through it.
Luckily we got plenty of chances to take a decent picture of it, since we saw it both going in to Aitcho Island, as well as coming back out. The captain was nice enough to sail around it for us.
What else can I say? It's the most beautiful piece of ice I've ever seen.
The magic light around midnight made for a fantastic display of colours.
Usually there was nobody on deck at this time.
This hut was constructed in the very early 1900 by the Nordenskjold group. Explorers overwintered here then.

If the military made seagulls, this would be it. These guys love to eat little penguins, especially the cute tender fluffy baby ones.
These guys help keep the colony cleaner.
They don't have their waterproof feathers yet, so they cannot take a bath.
Ice comes in colours from white to midnight blue. The colour depends in part from the pressure that the ice has been subjected to. More pressure = less air = darker blue.

Until now, I did not know places could be so beautiful.
Glaciers, fog, rocks, shafts of sunlight, all put together in a magnificent display that almost no-one ever sees. I am extremely lucky.
I cannot describe this very well with words. It is probably the most beautiful place I've ever been to.
