The first South American Soaring Championship took place in Chaves, Argentina, on January 2008. I would have never known about it if it weren't because a friend mentioned it. Luckily he did. And I had to be there. A bit humorous, perhaps, since I was surrounded by the Brazilian delegation (easily 40 people) and the Chilean delegation (another 40) and I alone was the entire self-proclaimed Colombian delegation. But hey, my FAI racing license says Colombia, so there!

I mentioned the event to folks in our gliding club, and Bill S. decided to join me. We had a bit of logistics to deal with, but the Argentinean folks were extraordinarily helpful from the very beginning.

It was a very memorable trip; one I wish to repeat as soon as possible. Although I need to go fly in the Cordillera too. Chaves is in the flats. Very similar to flying out of Lubbock or Hobbs.

Several pictures are courtesy of Nancy and Charly R. Thanks! See the pictures. And read all about it too in my Chaves blog. Visit the official website here. Check out the IGC files here. (Back to page 1)
