In August, 1998, I
was invited to participate in an international soaring contest in Cali,
with the condition that I fly a 2-place glider with a different "guest"
co-pilot each day. I happily agreed, and by a great coincidence, ended
up flying Allan's old Twin Lark, beautifully restored in Colombia. It is
really a shame that I don’t have any more pictures since the contest
itself was quite memorable and certainly provided many photo
opportunities. The contest was flown out of a military base to improve
security. For the same reason, there was almost no publicity.

One of our official turn points: the Cali international Airport. Military trainers in formation during the closing ceremonies. Came home with the third place.
For pilot security, when a landout happened, a Black Hawk helicopter was immediately dispatched with soldiers that would stay with the pilot until the retrieve crew arrived.
I experienced it myself once when I had to make an unscheduled landing in a dirt runway. The clandestine runway had been bombed by authorities during a raid. Still, landing in a runway with craters was better than ditching in a swamp in a borrowed glider.
Considering that I had one landout this was ok.
