This was a one-week soaring trip to California City to attend Wave
Camp and try to obtain my altitude diamond (5000m climb). It turns out
that as soon as I arrived, the wave left. Nonetheless, I had some
excellent instruction that, so early in my flying career, made me into a
more disciplined, better pilot. I took some aerobatic training in a
ASK-21 with tail weights and learnt the basics of loops, rolls, spins,
and such. The group had planned to attend a session in a hypobaric
chamber at Edwards Air Force Base, but this too was foiled. We toured
the flight line instead. Excellent hardware they have there...

Me with a rental G-102 getting ready for take-off. Me with a rental G-102 getting ready for take-off. B-2 overflying the gliderport. Me near an operational SR-71. This thing looks ultra fast even while standing still. X-1 at Edwards AFB entrance.
And also my first flight in a Blanik. Notice the weak link and the 2-rope hookup mechanism. Here is a B-2 behind a tanker with a chase plane on the right. Notice the relative size of the bomber compared to the chase plane - a full size fighter. This B-52 has served as "tow" plane for many X-missions. I have highlighted the area of the fuselage where the different mission stickers are placed.
